Print of an original Acrylic on Canvas, 16” x 20”

This is one in a series of 9, in my exhibition called, “The Fallow Ground. Each piece is painted from a photo I have taken from my experience in and on the other side of my “fallow ground.” Technically, fallow ground is a term used in farming to describe the soil that is taken out of a crop rotation for the purpose of regeneration, but what a beautiful metaphor for so much of the human experience. We all find ourselves among fallow land in life; seasons that are groundless, uncertain, and chaotic. Moments where it’s unclear what matters and why we’re here.

From an abandoned golf course near my home, time with my partner and dog, walks around Wynnedale, exploring 100 Acres Nature Park, sitting on my favorite porch on North Oxford street, and watching everything turn green. This collection of pieces is not an effort to fix your pain or remind you of the ‘beauty inside your pain.’ All I want is to let you know that you are not alone in your fallow season. That there is support and love in the land around you, the people asking to help, and the mutual unknowing-ness that we all live inside of. These are the literal paths I have walked on when I couldn’t escape the panic. They are the ponds, light, shadows, and faces that started to show me that I could work with the overgrown chaos that had become my life.
